Employee Health & Wellness
CHATTANOOGA, TN (October 2012) In an continued effort to encourage employees and Americans as a whole, to live healthier lives and reduce unnecessary medical costs due to physical inactivity North American Credit Services (NACS) and Medical Services of Chattanooga celebrated 'WALK-tober' on October 5th, at its Chattanooga, TN based corporate head-quarters.
"Our company feels passionately about the connection between one's daily decisions and the direct costs of healthcare," states Dallas S. Bunton, Sr. CEO of NACS and Medical Services of Chattanooga. "Employee wellness partnerships such as our WALK-tober kick-off this month, creates an opportunity in workplaces to engage in increased physical activity while at work and after-hours in improving one's personal health and well-being."
In 2009, the CDC estimated that chronic diseases caused 7 in 10 deaths each year in the United States. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration (HRSA) estimates the cost to treat illness and chronic disease caused by inactive lifestyles is nearly $1,000 annually for every American family. And the U.S. Surgeon General reports that two out of three Americans are not getting enough daily physical activity to maintain a basic level of fitness. "Simply adding 30 minutes of moderate physical activity, such as a brisk walk, at least five times a week can help people lose weight, lower their cholesterol and strengthen their hearts," shares Joel Henderson, NACS Public Affairs Director.
Company employees were provided an opportunity to participate in an interactive health resource fair held on the NACS campus, staffed by representatives from Erlanger Health System, BlueCross BlueShield of TN, BB&T Huffaker & Trimble Insurance Services, the American Cancer Society and Heart Association; along with chair-massages courtesy of Therapeutic Touch Massage.
NACS began its Chattanooga-based operations in 1981 with less than 20 employees, specializing in the professional collection of healthcare receivables. Today, NACS along with its affiliate company, Medical Services of Chattanooga, is a full service healthcare receivables management, company; comprised of four specialized divisions with a growing workforce of 250 employees.
