Have you ever wondered how you can change the world? Imagine a world with more Birthdays?! North American Credit Services (NACS) and Medical Services of Chattanooga employees recently did just that; along with members of the community, who came together at the 2012 Ooltewah-Collegedale 'Relay for Life' benefiting the American Cancer Society.
"There are always mixed feelings in these events. Some family members do not make it and this leaves a void. I have experienced the excitement of hope. Cancer can be overcome, you can have more years ahead and to celebrate birthdays with loved ones. This outweighs everything -- giving hope!" — Dallas S. Bunton, Sr.; NACS and Medical Services Chairman / CEO and 10 year Cancer Survivor.
Cancer is the underlying cause of nearly one in four deaths in the U.S. In 2010, an estimated 569,490 Americans died of cancer. What's more, around 11 million people living in the U.S. have had some form of Cancer. The American Cancer Society (ACS) division office in Chattanooga served over 1,100 newly diagnosed Cancer patients from South East Tennessee and North Georgia in the past year, with 45% of these diagnosis in Hamilton County being for Prostate and 22% Lung Cancer.
The money raised from this year's benefit will directly support the ACS mission and volunteers passion such as NACS employees; to save lives and create more birthdays by helping you stay well, helping you get well and by finding cures, and by fighting back.
Mr. Bunton says events such as the Ooltewah-Collegedale Relay is a chance for the community as a whole to come together to put an end to cancer; "Together, we can find a cure for this disease and make celebrating more birthdays a reality."
